In April 2021 co-founder Pam Sitterud took her kids to get their semi-annual dental exam, which, in truth, was not quite so semi-annual.

It had been too many years since she had taken them to get routine exams. Being a single working mom, she just couldn’t seem to find the time to take off of work or muster up the emotional fortitude it takes to corral children in a small waiting room. Not to mention fighting off her admittedly irrational fear of the dentist triggered by the smell of the medicinally drenched air and hearing the drills buzzing in the background.

As it would turn out, her reluctance was well-founded. What was supposed to be an hour and a half turned into 3? To top it all off, the dentist reported to her that 14-year-old son had 12 cavities.

Now she understood that her teenage son’s oral habits were lacking top-notch ranking, but 12 seemed a bit excessive. 

After an awkward and friction-filled conversation with the dental office, she retrieved her son’s x-rays and sent them to a dentist friend. That friend reported back that, in his opinion, her son actually had only 6 cavities. 

As she expressed her frustration with feeling so helpless in the whole process, her dentist friend shared with her a business model he had written several years ago that made dental exams much more convenient and gave power back to the patient…

This was the beginning of Dentacōr – a company that aims to revolutionize the dental industry.
