Perhaps you’ve seen the popular mouthwash commercials claiming to rid your mouth of “gingivitis! What is Gingivitis, and is mouthwash all it takes to remedy?

Let’s break the word up into parts:
Gingiva: “Gums”
Itis: Inflammation
Did you know that by simply eating and breathing, we all have “Gingivitis!” ?
It’s true! Small levels of inflammation happen simply by interacting with natural, life-requiring activities. Though mouthwash can be an immediate burst of breath-freshening rush, it is just that, an immediate and temporary option.

Let’s have a look at some simple solutions that produce long term benefits:

- Oral Hygiene: specifically gentle circular brushing motions to clean both teeth and gums, and don’t forget that Floss!
- Diet: Yes to natural whole foods and pure water! No to processed sugars and preserved foods, including sweetened beverages! This decreases the starchy stickiness of the tartar/plaque that builds up on our teeth causing…you guessed it: Inflammation!
- Sleep: allow the body to decrease stress and recover from forms of everyday stresses that all lend to Inflammation! …(there’s that word again;)
